Japanese professional Wrestling legend Antonio Inoki has died aged 79. He died due to medical conditions he had been facing for a long time; he was a massive figure in Japanese wrestling history and a WWE hall of Famer.

- Inoki, who was born Kanji Inoki in Yokohama, Japan, in 1943, first gained notoriety in the 1960s as a wrestler for the Japan Pro Wrestling Alliance. At the height of his career, Inoki engaged Muhammad Ali in 1976 in a fight dubbed “The War of the Worlds.”
- It was also regarded as the modern era’s first mixed martial arts fight.
- Inoki established New Japan-Pro Wrestling (NJPW) in 1972 and held ownership until 2005 when he sold most of the organization to Yuke. One of the most popular wrestling organizations outside of WWE is NJPW.
- In 1987, after defeating Masa Saito in the championship match, he became the first IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
- Inoki defeated Bob Backlund to win the WWF Championship in 1979, but there was outside interference. In their rematch, he managed to pin Backlund once more with the aid of interference, but the second match was declared a no-contest. Inoki gave up the position, and
- Backlund would triumph once more over Bobby Duncum. The WWF never acknowledged the title reign.
- He wrestled Ric Flair in Pyongyang in 1995 when the governments of Japan and North Korea joined forces to advance peace. In the end, Inoki won the contest.
